AFRicanmag.com began in 2001 as The AFRican, a magazine for Africans in the diaspora that had journalist Frank Edozien as Editor-In-Chief and Peju Alawusa as Creative Director. With over 110,000 readers perusing its pages, this New York-based publication was targeted at the sophisticated urbanite. It provided critical commentary and spotlighted the cultural scene and delivered the latest in fashion and style to those readers for over 8 years.
Carrying on the legacy of The AFRican, AFRicanmag.com is a lifestyle webzine devoted to bringing the best in African-focused news and entertainment to a hip, urbane and socially conscious diaspora audience. AFRicanmag.com takes full advantage of the Web's interactivity and reach to plug you right into developments on the African continent and the diaspora, paying particular attention to breaking news, in-depth features and events.
We have been and still are on a journey that is energized by the dreams and aspirations of Africans. The AFRican was largely a volunteer effort. It was the product of Africans and lovers of Africa putting their sweat, energy, talent and resources together for common good. The names of those who have participated in this journey are numerous. We would not be here today without the late Nya Joy Payton.
