We got drenched last night at Prospect Park. I was pounded with a torrential downpour on my way to the show and brought a sheet to lay out over the wet seats, hunkering down with Managing Editor Nana Nkweti.
After Haale's opening set, the rain gods had mercy on us and Salif Keita went on without so much as a drop. By his third song, everybody was on their feet dancing. I can't say all with rhythm, but at least they were moving!
Tonight, Ayo performs at SOB's. Beautiful and talented, she's that kind of singer that makes me proud to be a Naija woman.
Needless to say, the tix are sold out. But if you want a preview, check her vid for "Life if Real," shot on location in Lagos.
Hmmmm, so Ludacris ain't the only one shooting vids in Africa?! And Ayo actually has something useful to say, versus his ode to "pimpin' all over the world." (Well, not gonna knock it till I try it. LOL.) Make sure y'all support indie AFRican artists whenever and however you can. It's a tough game.
