Downloads: The Top 5 New Songs From Nigeria

Published on Wed, Jul 31 2013 by Web Master
From Wizkid's innuendo-ridden collaboration with Wale to Eva's blazing return to rap, here are the very best new Nigerian songs. Listen good.

1. Wizkid - Drop (Feat. Wale)

E.M.E. Music/Star Boy superstar Wizkid joins forces with Maybach Music Group's Nigerian rap export Wale Folarin on Drop, the most talked about transatlantic collaboration to hit Nigerian music since D'banj remixed Scapegoat with Kanye West. A homecoming of some sorts for Wale, this explicit sex-themed track could turn out to be the Nigerian club anthem of 2013.

2. KaySwitch - Won Binu

D'banj's younger sibling continues to aspire to his big brother's phenomenonal success, popping off Afrobeats singles every now and then. KaySwitch's latest step up the fame ladder is Won Binu, an audacious uptempo track produced by UCPrawf. The single off the former Mo'Hits artiste's upcoming SCAM 101 mixtape is the first track released via his all-new Produkt Republic (micro-)label and a dedication to his recently married twin sister. We picked it for its thumping drums.

3. Olamide - R.I.P. (Feat. Vector)

Nigerian rapper du jour Olamide recruits equally burgeoning spitter Vector for the trap-inspired track, R.I.P. Altering his flow dramatically, Olamide delivers an abundance of cheeky Yoruba punchlines across two verses on this well-aimed shot at his real and imagined haters. Vector doesn't disappoint either, holding things down pretty tightly on the hook and a short verse that's all his own.

4. Eva - Lights Out

Undeniably talented femcee Eva (Alordiah) returns to the music business after a lengthy hiatus with a solid single, Lights Out. Engineered by multi-versatile music maker Gray Jon'z, the sexy track has the Nokia Don't Break Da Beat Season 2 judge rapping and singing for well over three minutes. And it works, all of it, from the song's decadent lyrics to Eva's makeshift patois.

5. Wande Coal - Kilaju

Like his former Mo'Hits labelmate KaySwitch, Mavin Records artiste Wande Coal elected to 'launch' his own record label, Black Diamond Entertainment, with a new single. Put together by Wizkid's favourite producer Maleek Berry, Kilaju is a rhythmic party starter that thrives on the quality of UK-based Berry's signature sounds and Wande's vocals.
