“Nelson Mandela is the symbol of what human kind must strive for: peace, brotherhood and a common goal to better every life on this planet.” Those were the words of NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg as she, fellow NASA astronaut Christopher Cassidy and European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano paid homage to the great South African freedom fighter on behalf of the International Space Station's six-astronaut crew. The astronauts pledged their support for this year's Nelson Mandela International Day in a video shot about 354 kilometers above the earth's atmosphere.
