On this busy street of Lagos, Nigeria, by-standers argued about the late king of pop, Michael Jackson. As they purchased their Newspapers, the discussion focused on whether Jackson was a role model or not because of the changes in the color of his skin. But one thing they all agreed on is, when it comes to Pop Music, Jackson was a legend.
“His music was natural; it inspired people. He was a good dancer, and all he does was perfect,” said Ikechukwu Iroabuchi, a long time fan of Michael Jackson. He said he was shocked to hear of his death. Holding up the CD of his favorite Michael Jackson song, “Smooth Criminal
” he added, “I condemn him for changing the color of his skin.”
The color of Jackson’s skin seems to be the one thing bothering most fans that loved him. Some are even saying the plastic surgeries hastened his death.
“He disfigured himself by doing Nose surgery; he caused his own death,” said Sunday, another fan of Jackson’s.
Michael Jackson, 50, passed away June 25th, 2009. He began performing at the age of five. He was the seventh of nine children born in Gary, Indiana to the Jackson family. He sang with his brothers, The Jackson 5 from 1969 to 1971 when he began his career as a solo artist.
In 1982, he released Thriller, which was the apex of his career. The album remained in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for 80 consecutive weeks.
