What is wrong with our society today? Have we gone mad? With everything that is going nowadays, it’s no wonder children are so messed up. Everywhere we turn we see pornographic contents. It’s the in newspapers, music videos, television, and cell phones! Children are more and more exposed to it. It’s becoming harder by the day to protect them. Most of the TV programs are just filled with sexual content. What kind of impact is this going to have on the children in the long run? This is genuinely worrying me.
Take for today for instance. I was really bored and had nothing better to do, so I switched on the TV hoping to find something interesting to keep me entertained. I searched through the TV channels; I came across a movie that I thought was innocent as it had no age restrictions, and I thought, oh goody! My nine-year-old sister soon joined me, and I was glad to have someone to finally keep me company. There we were watching the movie; little did I know I would soon regret that decision. I mean, it was a PG kind of movie, and I never expect to see any sexual contents in it. But bang! There it was in front of us, naked enough people having sex. I quickly moved to change the channel, but no matter how fast I may have moved to change it, the damage had already been done. My little sister got to see and knew exactly what they were doing. I became so angry that I yelled at my sister, but not because I was mad at her, but with the movie for ruining my day and for damaging my little sister’s brain and filling it with their nonsense.
I wonder if the people who are responsible for making and selling pornographic contents realize the kind of damage they are causing for the children and the rest of the society.
Today we have the highest number of children, who are barely old enough to wipe their noses clean, making babies. We also have highest statistics of rape, especially in South Africa. A woman is raped every ten minutes. We even have boys as young as ten-year-old who rape their little siblings and those around them. After all, this is what the children are learning by watching pornography.
