The City of Lights was gleefully lit up to spotlight Paris? Fashion Week
Yves Saint Laurent and Viktor & Rolfwere among the designers on hand to kickoff the week of splendor. Ultra Glam. Ultra Chic. Those were the buzz words used to describe the array of pieces that graced the dashing runway. Both design houses seemed to be intent on creating a collection that re-established the claim that women as “power players” can stay on top of their game and look absolutely fab at the same time.
Stefano Pilati’s fall ’09 collection for Yves Saint Laurent showcased functional and understated pieces that brought the right mix of glamour and sleek elegance the label has always been known for. There was a playful and edgy twist to the simplest elements, like the sharp white strips against the gray background of a skirt paired with an architecturally structured crisp white blouse.
The Dutchmen duo of Viktor and Rolf are revered for their intense collaborations that consistently produce inventive awe-inspiring results. Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren stayed true to their off-beat and avant-garde attributes for the fall ’09 fashion show. Models strutting the runway were white-washed and made to look intensely pale from top to bottom with their makeup acting as a stark contrast.
This certainly helped to heighten the dramatics. Shades of off-white, gray, black and stone were the colors of choice but the results were anything but dull. There were highly imaginative creations using the most daring fabrics; woolens, liquid jerseys, and material that seemed to strangely resemble something akin to concrete. There was also a lot of play with ruffles and chiffon. The silk chiffon shirtdress was particularly fetching.
All in all the Yves Saint Laurent and Viktor and Rolf collections brought a lot of romanticism, imagination and high drama, which was fitting for the one of the most romantic cities in the world. “Ooh La La!!
