Fashion Review

Milan Fashion Week has started in full swing and the word on the street is that Luxury and Comfort Chic were the common trends. There was no hint of the hard hitting economic woes that have dominated the headlines and inevitably brought in chaotic and uncertain energy to most of the other shows across the pond. It was refreshing to see full on glam in all its glory on display adding the much needed “WOW” factor that make these events a worldwide stage play.

As usual Armani didn’t disappoint with his show stopping parade of whimsical, light and airy designs fluttering down the runway. It was probably a boost that he was in familiar territory. Nevertheless he stayed true to his classic and edgy roots. There were definitely very strong and bold undertones with a hint of sportiness that gave his collection that extra kick. He proved once gain that the Armani woman can be chic and sexy while staying on top of her game.

Speaking of smart and sexy women ushers us into the world of Miuccia Prada. Her runway collection inspired the “country chic meets city glam” motto. Her Sunday night viewing definitely explained the beauty and origin of intertwining the simple basics with rougher more complex fabrics. Prada has always been known for her immaculate tailoring but she still made room for certain “imperfections” like split-open seams that show a surprising hint of bright red against the olive or brown background. There was also a lot of attention paid to the waist with her great use of belts of all textures and sizes. The hip-high boots were also a much beloved accessory that has been slowly but surely making its mark this season so by fall ’09 it should be a staple. Striking, Romantic, Rugged but Luxurious – Milan Fashion Week is not for the weak-minded woman. Only the strong and sexy need apply.
