Spoken Word: The Page to the Stage
By African Magazine Staff Writer

Artist kahlil almustafa has performed with and opened for the likes of Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, dead prez, and Floetry. This 2002 Nuyorican Grand Slam Champion authored two collections of poetry: Grandma's Soup and I'm Crying Everyone's Tears. almustafa's debut CD CounterIntelligence is replete with rhymes that tackle tough subject matter: from the angry guitar riff tinged rants against blood diamond trafficking in Sierra Leone in Pieces- with rap-rock band GAME Rebellion- to the haunting Lost Heroes-an ode with vocalist Sparlha Swa- to the brown skinned soldiers fighting for freedoms they "have only heard about in myths, law books and in ancient words whispered by the ocean's waves." Have a listen to this fiery poet.
