Featuring Don Jazzy's stellar production (and signature vocals), Dr. SID's Lady Don Dada
is, like many of the songs coming out of Nigeria every week, a made-for-the-club Afrobeats single. There's nothing groundbreaking or particularly unique about the new track, but its trippy instrumentals are particularly hard to ignore. With (cliched) lyrics about independent women who can pay their own bills in the club, Lady Don Dada
attempts to set itself apart by paying homage to the female 'baller'. But as on fellow Mavin Records artiste Wande Coal's recent release, Rotate
, the instrumental backdrop shines brighter than the decidely weak vocals, saying a lot about on Don Jazzy's remarkable fingerwork, and nothing else worth paying attention to.
