Haiti, I
By African Magazine Staff Writer
Even as David Rudder promises us in the video below, that we will see a Haiti restored to its former glory, for many of us the competing images of battered bodies, dilapidated homes, and broken dreams make it impossible to imagine such a future.

However, so that our eyes and minds don't remain stained by this catastrophe, we must recall a different kind of Haiti. One borne in the belly of the Haitian Revolution, and on the backs of such heroes as Toussaint L'Ouverture, Jean Léopold Dominique and Edwidge Danticat.

A Haiti soothing and cradling its people with Kompa and Zouk. A nation willing to redefine a religion that came in on slave-ships, in order to create Voodoo, a spirituality which honors all things. Haiti, brimming with bravery, strength and resolve,  has long withstood the test of time, and will continue to do so. So for now, all we can truly say is, "Haiti, I'm Sorry."
